Texas Medicare 101
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that in general is available to people who:
- are age 65 or older or
- are younger with certain disabilities or
- have End Stage Renal Disease
Medicare pays for some, but not all, of your healthcare needs.
Medicare has several parts which you can learn about on this website in order to understand your Medicare coverage and the cost-sharing you will be responsible to pay.
How to Enroll in Texas Medicare
Turning 65 does not automatically enroll you in Medicare unless you are already receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
For more information, you can visit our page on how to enroll in Texas Medicare.
Texas Medicare & Group Insurance
Medicare beneficiaries who are still covered by employer group insurance can choose to delay Medicare Part B until retirement, or you can keep Part B and it will coordinate with your Medicare to help lower your overall out of pocket medical expenses.
If you received your Medicare card automatically and wish to delay your enrollment in Part B, you will need to notify Social Security. You can then later use a special enrollment period to enroll into Part B when you retire or lose your group coverage.
Texas Medicare eligibles who need assistance with enrolling in Medicare can call our office for advice.
